WORMED - Omegon CD
It took Wormed 10 years between Planisphaerium and Exodromos, and it was worth it because they produced one of their best albums ever. Then... Season of Mist happened and they became over-produced, boring and over-hyped. After another long break of 8 years they released something else worth the long wait. It's still SoM but it's produced more like the Willowtip era stuff, with more punch to it. I'm pretty happy with this album.
The guitar riffs have one big addition - tremolo riffs that sound very black metal inserted as breakdowns. There's also real deep bass drops used sort of like slam riffs to create a "pounding" sound as a breakdown here and there. There's bits of high-reverb clean guitar as interludes and several breakdowns of the same trademark Wormed style that sound just like 'Stellar Depopulation' on Exodromos. There are precious few pinch harmonics and notably very few dissonant chords, which had been a staple of the band in the past.
V-Kazar, who has been their drummer since Metaportal does a fantastic job here. He leans into the Southern European Jazz style that was so good on Plainisphaerium (but never seen again from this band, until now). You can practically see him smirk as he flourishes little improvised bits. Production has brought the drums into full view and the snare is real nasty sounding, which I always love, and this in particular makes the album feel a little more slammy and less techy.
