Germany is home to many amazing thrash bands - Sodom, Kreator, Destruction, Tankard, Exumer, Holy Moses, and Assassin, to name a few. But one band that is often overlooked is Protector, a death-thrash/blackened thrash band from Wolfsburg. Their first record, Golem, is just as overlooked, despite it being possibly one of the best thrash metal albums to come out of Germany. Right off the bat, it's clear that Protector was much faster than most of their contemporaries, especially on tracks such as Delirium Tremens, Protector Of Death, Omnipresent Aggression, and Space Cake, the latter of which actually features Tom Angelripper of Sodom. Hansi Müller's guitar work is exceptional, and compliments Michael Hasse's (R.I.P.) hyper speed drumming especially well. Tracks like Delirium Tremens, Germanophobe, and Only The Strong Survive have perfect transitions from sonically abrasive speeds to crushing grooves.
