PATRIA - Liturgia Haeresis Digi-CD
Patria is a duo which arrives from Brazil and in three years they have already released three full-length records. "Liturgia Haeresis" is the third one. As any regular metaller should know, Brazil is the land of widely-known bands like Sepultura, it's the land of power metal and most recently we also have a death metal representative in Krisiun. So, where does the black metal fit in? Maybe in Patria.
On this new album, "Liturgia Haeresis", the band has the purpose to recall the raw black metal that was in vogue during the '90s in Europe, specifically in Norway. This subject leads me to another matter: the production. It's very raw indeed. I risk to say there is no studio work at all, but if it is a huge problem for most of you, I say it isn't for me. I like raw stuff, and I think some of the mysticism and darkness of bands like Patria lies in diamonds yet to be polished.
"Liturgia Haeresis" has a strong power to express coldness through the ripping guitar riffs; they are really frozen and sometimes I felt Mantus (the man behind all the instruments) was pushed to the limit to create such passages. However, we had a chance to enjoy melody and epic soundscapes in tracks like "Underworld Temple", "Sons Of Destiny", and "Umbra Patri".
