Orodruin – Epicurean Mass LP (black)

The first album by us doom metal band Orodruin is very reminiscent of Trouble, Saint Vitus, and Black Sabbath. With comparisons like that, it should be clear that this album is full of powerful riffs and some great atmosphere. The atmosphere is what seperates this from the aforementioned bands, as the atmosphere is very strong and present thoughout the whole album.

The album opens with the sound of rain and thunder before quickly moving to a slow dramatic synth intro. This introduction creates a very gloomy, depressing feeling which is carried on through the album by the riffs and vocals.

The riffs on this album are powerful and varied enough that they aren't boring. Slower songs like Peasants Lament and Unspeakable Truth feature slow riffs that make you want to bang your head despite the tempo. The whole album is not slow however, Brun the Witch and the title track feature some faster more upbeat riffs.

The vocals are very good and atmospheric as well. The vocals are clean and mostly melancholic which adds to the gloomy feel of the songs,

This album is highly recomended for all fans of traditional doom metal. Even some fans of classic heavy metal may like this release.
