This album is a total departure from earlier Lividity material, swapping out that band's trademark style of groovy, sex-obsessed death metal for an ultra-fast, ultra-brutal (but still sex-obsessed) breed of death/grind insanity. Want to know the really crazy part? IT'S AN IMPROVEMENT! Old Lividity is great of course, but the stuff played on 'Used, Abused, And Left For Dead' is totally different and totally amazing as well. This is some of the most brain-meltingly brutal music I've heard in years and every moment of it's totally priceless.

Okay, so old Lividity played really sludgy, Celtic Frost-influenced oldschool death metal, a lot of Autopsy influence, you know what I'm talking about. Well someone pissed the bed because the band has done a complete 180 with the new album. Double bass, blast beats, and savage tremolo riffing dominates nearly all of the album with only a handful of slow, chugging passages used for contrast. A lot of it reminds me of a more technical Mortician, with a similar ultra-low vocal performances (with, of course, the splattery, demented highs Lividity's known for). The music feels particularly frantic, with a lot of stop/start riffing and rhythms like on the title track, and the combination of speed and fast, percussive vocals gives the music a real aura of insanity.

Did I mention that this is really, really fast? Because it is. Really, really fucking fast, way faster than most modern death metal. Maybe it's partly illusory due to just how unrelenting it is. There's no clean guitar passages or mellow sections, it's just on/off insanity all the way through. The only times when this isn't brutal is when the band is silent. I love totally grinding brutal death metal with a genuinely dark atmosphere, and this perfectly fits the bill in that regard.

If you love super fast, super brutal death metal, you'll absolutely love this. Forget everything you knew about Lividity in the past and give this a try; you'll be absolutely surprised by what you here. An absolutely great album on every level.
