This album ends up taking a close backseat to the one that would follow mostly in terms of distinctiveness, as there is something to the running criticism that some have thrown at this album that it doesn't bring much new to the table. It's sort of the inevitable fate of an album that was written over the course of four years, over which time there were massive stylistic strides being made among already established bands. Nevertheless, when an album enjoyed a release prior to the recent state of near universal access to mass media by independent bands, it was entirely incidental and dependent upon the caprices of a handful of people with scarce resources. On the merits, Forbidden Evil is an excellent album with all the necessary bases being more than covered, resulting in an album that is fast and a load of fun. It only falls short to Twisted Into Form by a nose, and much of that can be chalked up on the personal tastes of the author of this review, who prefers his thrash to be both neck-wrecking, yet meticulous and methodical.
