Back in 2014, I found a new genre known as a funeral doom metal and very quickly started to search as many bands playing such slow and depressive music as possible. From today's point of view, few managed to stand the test of time as these days I find playing one note per 2 minutes supported by cringy keyboards utterly lacking and boring. Nevertheless, Evoken falls into a completely different category and since I've heard "Quietus", my love for them is still burning. Back then, I had never listened to metal like this before, so I was very impressed. Even today it strikes me what atmosphere of endless void and despair these guys are able to evoke, and yet how creative they're within the boundaries of rather limited genre. Let's talk about "A Caress of the Void" - a release which seems to be very underrated and somehow omitted when it comes to discussing Evoken's discography(even though ratings for this album on this site are on par with the others).
