DEPARTURE CHANDELIER - Antichrist Rise To Power CD
Admittedly, when I heard this record for the first time I was simultaneously intrigued and bemused by the concept of Napoleonic black metal. But I'll tell you right now, since I first got my hands on this back in 2019, this hasn't been more than a stones throw from my CD player, and has made the trip to work and back with me countless times. Coming in at a relatively succinct 34 minutes, this is just the right length, the right amount of time to drink a cold beer and actively listen, or the perfect amount of time to cruise back and forth to the grocery store. Regardless as to the activity you're engaged in, this album keeps your attention at every fucking turn, it's got riffs on riffs on riffs and these moody synth passages that paint a picture of betrayal, soot blackened stone walls and finality. Truly a masterpiece.
