I'm a big fan Dead Congregation's debut album "Graves of the Archangel" but I thought their sophomore was a bit too samey, safe and boring overall. Fortunately for me, they're back with a two songs EP and the material is almost as strong as their compositions of their 2008 record. Their sound is thick, full of massive riffs fed the richest proteins they were able to find and while they're obviously not trying to reinvent anything, their sound is as fresh as it possibly can within the confines of this genre.

Divided in two parts, this EP starts with the the colossal "Redemptive Immolation", a testament on how death metal can be slowed down and played subtly without lacking any of the genre's intense identity. It was somewhat similar to the atmospheric sound of Phobocosm, it's heavy and doesn't rely on individual technical performances to hit hard. The second track, "Wind's Bane" is a fast and to the point track with a clear sense of direction and a cavernous and occult appeal. Dead Congregation's force is their blackened death metal formula full of bounces and variety and they're proving that they're still one of the most interesting bands with this sombre release.
