Witchcraft - The Alchemist LP (Black vinyl)

As far as 20th century heavy metal albums go, this is a weird one. On the one hand, the vibe is undoubtedly metal: metal riffs, fantasy lyrics, and a singer who delivers some epic clean vocals. On the other hand, the songs sound proto-metal: classic rock song structures, the use of saxophone, and acoustic breakdowns that could fit onto Houses of the Holy.

Now what does that all mean? Well, if you are primarily a rock fan like myself, who enjoys indulging in Black Sabbath inspired metal quite often, then this will be one of the better metal albums you could come across. However, if you prefer your metal extreme and modern sounding, then this probably isn’t for you.
