AVULSED - Extraterrestrial Carnage Digi-MCD
Musically, we receive another dose of the Spanish group's powerful death metal, which pulls no punches nor hides its similarities with the creaking ballast of Swedish big guns like Dismember and Vomitory. Dave Rotten's vocals drip with metaphorical shreds of flesh, while the band's battery and atmospheric texturing make the themes believable too. Indeed, the "eaten by aliens in space" concept is the only plausible reason for making a specific release for these tracks, and despite a lack of cliched extraterrestrial ambience or samples I get the feeling from the guitar leads snaking around 'Vile Evil Rotted Over' that we are viewing a gruesome and uncanny situation. The intermittently pulverizing riffs and creepy solos set up the vibe nicely, even if death metal this heavy seems incompatible with the term "atmospheric". In both this song and 'Intergalactic Gore Wars', some of the roars bring to mind the savagery seen in the Alien franchise, so it's pretty vivid. That second cut sticks to more of a classic structure and will please anyone lacking fast lashings of brutality in their life. You can decide for yourself whether you really need this, but I'd say you won't be disappointed with the actual content.
