We live in strange times where your affinity for the dark arts is measured by the amount of patches you have on your jacket or by the number of times you insert the word "KVLT" in to a sentence. We live in a time where everything Black Metal once stood for is slowly withering away (I just had to use the word wither because its so "KVLT"). Fans are becoming morons and musicians are failing to walk the talk with their overly hyped releases. The only constant is how your faith in black metal is tested every measly step of the way.
At a time like this, it is indeed a pleasant surprise (or "dismal" if you are all dark, broody and "KVLT") to pick up a record that actually invokes feelings of fear, terror and play twisted little games with your psyche. The Dreaming I by Akhlys will do just that and help restore your faith in Black Metal.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the band, Akhlys is the brainchild of Nightbringer mastermind Naas Alcameth (Alcameth... Alcameth pure genius don`t you think? We now know what he was on when composing the album). Since 2009, Alcameth and Ain have released two albums under the Akhlys moniker. The first was a run of the mill record titled "Supplication" which was wound together using dark and broody atmospheric soundscapes which sounded as good as the next random record you will come across whilst the sophomore release is a slab of terrifying black metal worthy of nightmares.
