This short but sweet EP starts off with the aforementioned "Ballcutter". This is the Cancer I remember. The riffs are razor-sharp with perfect amounts of groove and slicing speed. Carl Stokes' drums are punchy and set the tone of each track perfectly. "All the Curses", an unreleased track, mixes between fast and intense passages of violence and doomed, slow executions. I don't really know why this song wasn't included on Shadow Gripped, it's very well done. You can tell that the band put lots of time into trying to write like their old selves again. "Crocodile Itch" is a slower, more mid-paced number that has a heavy Bolt Thrower tinge to it. The vocals, done by John Walker, still drip and ooze with sinister intentions which really helps keep everything together here. Bands doing a comeback album after a long time tend to lose the same feeling with new vocals. Finally, the demo tracks are last. I like them a bit more than the versions on Shadow Gripped, mainly for their more raw sound, and you can clearly hear the band trying to come back together again to write bludgeoning death metal.
